Reaching Kensington from Moonee Ponds
Our clinic on Pascoe Vale Road is a straightforward run down Mount Alexander Road and Racecourse Road to Kensington, so visit times here are flexible. The suburb’s narrow streets and limited parking are familiar to our team.
Who we visit in Kensington
The Kensington housing estate, with its towers and walk-ups near Ormond Street, is home to many older residents and people living with disability, and we visit it often. We know the access arrangements and we plan exercises around apartment-sized spaces. Elsewhere, the Victorian terraces around Bellair Street and Macaulay Road and the converted woolstores along the river house long-time residents, NDIS participants and people recovering from surgery.
Walking and balance in Kensington
JJ Holland Park is the suburb’s main green space and has flat paths that suit a graded walking program. The Moonee Ponds Creek trail runs along the eastern edge of the suburb, and Macaulay Road’s shops are a practical goal for people who want to do their own errands. Kensington’s terraces often have steep internal stairs, so leg strength and safe stair technique feature in many of our programs here.
After hospital
Kensington residents are usually treated at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Parkville, which is only a few minutes away. We visit people in the weeks after discharge from joint replacements, fractures and medical admissions, following the hospital’s plan and making sure the house is safe to move around in.
Podiatry at home
Nail and skin care, diabetic foot assessments and footwear advice are all available at home. For estate residents especially, regular podiatry keeps feet healthy and keeps people mobile.
Nearby suburbs
We also visit Flemington, North Melbourne, West Melbourne and Ascot Vale from the same clinic.
