Reaching Abbotsford from Brunswick
Our Sydney Road clinic is a short drive from Abbotsford by way of Johnston Street. The suburb’s narrow streets and busy parking near Victoria Street are familiar to our team, and we plan visit times around them.
Who we visit in Abbotsford
Abbotsford has a long-established community in the workers’ cottages and terraces between Hoddle Street and the river, many of them Vietnamese-Australian families who have made Victoria Street their own since the 1980s. Older residents who want to stay in those homes are a large part of our work here, and we welcome a family member sitting in if English is not the first language at home. We also visit NDIS participants and people recovering from surgery in the newer apartments along the river and Victoria Street.
Walking and recovery by the river
Abbotsford has some of the best recovery walking in the inner east. The Yarra trail, the grounds of the Abbotsford Convent and the paths around Collingwood Children’s Farm are flat, shaded and full of places to sit. A walking program here almost always ends up on one of them. Victoria Street’s shops and the route 109 tram are practical goals for people who want to shop and travel on their own again.
After hospital
Abbotsford residents are usually treated at St Vincent’s in Fitzroy or Epworth Richmond, both minutes away. We visit in the first weeks after discharge from joint replacements, fractures and medical admissions, following the hospital’s plan and checking the home is safe to move around in.
Podiatry at home
Nail and skin care, diabetic foot assessments, ingrown toenail care and footwear advice are all available at home across Abbotsford. Comfortable feet keep people walking to the river, and that is what keeps them well.
Nearby suburbs
We also visit Collingwood, Clifton Hill, Fairfield and Kew.
