Served from our Kew East clinic
Our clinic on Burke Road is a few minutes from Alphington by way of the Chandler Highway bridge. The suburb is also within reach of our Brunswick clinic, but we usually send a clinician from Kew East.
Who we visit in Alphington
Alphington’s older streets of Edwardian and Californian bungalow homes between Heidelberg Road and the river house many long-time residents who want to stay put. The large new development on the former paper mill site along the Yarra has brought apartments and townhouses that house NDIS participants, younger families and people recovering from surgery. We visit both, along with residents of aged care homes in and around the suburb.
Walking and balance in Alphington
Alphington is well served for recovery walking. Darebin Parklands on the northern edge has gently graded paths and benches, Alphington Park on the river is flat and shaded, and the Yarra trail runs from there in both directions. Heidelberg Road’s shops and Alphington station are practical goals for people who want to manage errands and travel on their own again. The streets down to the river are steep in places, so leg strength often comes first.
After hospital
Alphington residents are usually treated at the Austin in Heidelberg, St Vincent’s in Fitzroy or the private hospitals in Kew. A short block of home physiotherapy in the first weeks after a joint replacement, a fracture or an illness helps the discharge stick. We follow your surgeon’s plan and keep your GP informed if asked.
Podiatry at home
Nail and skin care, diabetic foot assessments, ingrown toenail care and footwear advice are all available at home across Alphington. Comfortable feet keep people walking to the river, and that is what keeps them well.
Nearby suburbs
We also visit Fairfield, Kew, Ivanhoe and Northcote.
