Home after the Austin
The Austin Hospital, the Mercy Hospital for Women and Warringal Private are all a few minutes away in Heidelberg, and many of our visits in Ivanhoe are in the first days and weeks after discharge. We follow the plan your surgeon or hospital physiotherapist set, make sure the house is safe to move around in, and rebuild strength and walking in the place where it matters.
Who we visit in Ivanhoe
Ivanhoe has a high proportion of older residents, many in the substantial homes they have owned for decades on the hilly streets around Upper Heidelberg Road and The Boulevard. Staying in those homes, with their stairs and sloping gardens, is the goal we hear most, and adult children arranging care for a parent make up a large share of our enquiries. We also visit the suburb’s retirement villages and aged care homes, NDIS participants, and people recovering from surgery.
Hills and the river flats
Ivanhoe and Eaglemont are hilly, so leg strength and safe stair technique usually come first in our programs here. The reward is the Yarra flats below Ivanhoe East, where Chelsworth Park, the Wilson Reserve paths and the river trail are flat, shaded and full of benches. Upper Heidelberg Road’s shops and Ivanhoe station are practical goals for people who want to manage errands and travel on their own again.
Podiatry at home
Nail and skin care, diabetic foot assessments, ingrown toenail care and footwear advice are all available at home across Ivanhoe, Eaglemont and Ivanhoe East. On hilly streets, well-fitting shoes with good grip matter more than usual.
