Served from our Moonee Ponds clinic
Our clinic on Pascoe Vale Road is a short drive across the Maribyrnong River to Footscray. The suburb’s dense streets, apartment buildings and limited parking are familiar to our team, and we plan visit times around them.
After hospital in Footscray
Footscray is a hospital suburb. Western Health’s Footscray Hospital on Gordon Street has served the west for generations, and the new Footscray Hospital on the Geelong Road side is one of the largest in the state. Many of our home visits here are in the weeks after discharge, when someone is home from a joint replacement, a fracture or a medical admission and cannot yet manage a clinic trip. We follow the hospital’s plan, check the home is safe to move around in, and build strength and walking back up.
Who we visit in Footscray
The suburb has a large community of older residents in the streets around Barkly Street and Geelong Road, many from families who arrived in the decades after the war, and a growing number of NDIS participants in the newer apartments near the station and Victoria University. We visit all of them, along with residents of Footscray’s aged care homes. If English is not the first language at home, we welcome a family member sitting in to help.
Walking and balance in Footscray
Footscray Park on the river is the suburb’s best walking space, with wide, level paths and plenty of benches. The Maribyrnong River trail runs north from there. Closer to home, the footpaths around the market and Nicholson Street mall are practical goals for people who want to shop independently again.
Podiatry at home
Nail and skin care, diabetic foot assessments, ingrown toenail care and footwear advice are all available at home across Footscray. Regular foot care is one of the simplest ways to stay mobile and out of hospital.
Nearby suburbs
We also visit Maribyrnong, Maidstone, Kensington and West Melbourne.
