  • Auburn Road village and Camberwell Junction are practical goals for independent errands
  • Anderson Park and the Gardiners Creek trail offer flat walking close to most homes

A short drive from our Kew East clinic

Our clinic on Burke Road is a few minutes north of Hawthorn East by way of Burke Road itself, so travel is short and visit times are flexible.

Who we visit in Hawthorn East

Hawthorn East has a high proportion of older residents, many in the substantial homes they have owned for decades on the streets around Auburn Road and Tooronga Road, and many more in the suburb’s retirement villages and aged care homes, of which there are several. Staying at home, or living well in retirement living, is the goal we hear most. We also visit NDIS participants in the apartments along Burke Road and Camberwell Road, and people recovering from surgery who cannot yet manage a clinic trip.

Walking and balance in Hawthorn East

Anderson Park has flat paths and benches, and the Gardiners Creek trail along the suburb’s southern edge offers longer, shaded walks. The Auburn Road village and Camberwell Junction’s shops are practical goals for people who want to manage their own errands again, and the route 70 and 75 trams along Riversdale Road and Burwood Road are goals for people working towards independent travel.

After hospital

Hawthorn East residents are usually treated at Epworth Hawthorn, which specialises in rehabilitation, at Cabrini in Malvern or at the private hospitals in Kew and Camberwell. A short block of home physiotherapy in the first weeks after a joint replacement, a fracture or an illness helps the discharge stick. We follow your surgeon’s plan and keep them informed if asked.

Podiatry at home

Nail and skin care, diabetic foot assessments, ingrown toenail care and footwear advice are all available at home across Hawthorn East, including in retirement villages. Many of our regular podiatry clients here are older residents who can no longer reach their own feet comfortably.

Nearby suburbs

We also visit Hawthorn, Camberwell, Kew and Canterbury from the same clinic.
